Gophr Courier Review: Is It Worth Signing Up?

Quick summary: If you’re looking for a flexible side-hustle that pays better than your average delivery app, Gophr is worth keeping an eye on. It might not be as busy as Amazon Flex or Deliveroo (yet), but when the jobs do come through, the rates are surprisingly decent.

What Is Gophr?

Gophr is a UK-based courier platform that connects independent drivers with businesses like Screwfix, Asda, Superdrug, and other retail brands. Jobs are mostly same-day local deliveries, and you’re paid per drop. Think of it as a more professional version of Stuart, with better rates — but less volume (depending on your location). I’ve been delivering with Gophr for a few weeks, and it looks like a promising delivery side-hustle.

Signing Up for Gophr

The signup process is fairly standard, similar to most gig-economy delivery jobs. You’ll need:

  • A full UK driving licence
  • Vehicle details (car, van, or motorbike)
  • Proof of Hire & Reward insurance
  • A recent DBS certificate
  • To complete online onboarding and app training

Some of the training is tailored around clients like Superdrug (pharmaceuticals) and Asda (home deliveries), but in my experience, the bulk of the work (at least in Plymouth) has been Screwfix deliveries.

My Experience Working for Gophr (So Far)

Availability & Job Frequency

In Plymouth, the work is pretty sporadic. I wouldn’t recommend relying on Gophr as your main gig — but it’s a good app to keep running in the background while you’re out doing jobs for Amazon Flex or Stuart.

Unfortunately, I usually get a Gophr job notification right in the middle of a Flex block, which is classic sod’s law. But when I have been able to accept jobs, they’ve always been worth it.

Real Job Examples & Pay

Here are some of the jobs I’ve had through Gophr so far:

  • Screwfix to nearby customer – ~1 mile distance
    Paid: £14
  • City centre Screwfix deliveries – within same postcode (PL4)
    Paid: £9–£15 per job
  • Plympton to Plymstock (cancelled by customer) – ~3 miles
Paid: £9 (60% of full fee)

For short-distance jobs like these, the pay is excellent — especially compared to Stuart, where you might drive twice the distance for less money. It’s also worth mentioning driver support – they responded quickly via in-app chat and resolved the cancellation issue without hassle.

Recent Developments: Gophr’s Partnership with Wickes

Since writing the original review, I’ve noticed Gophr branching out into new sectors — most notably same-day deliveries for Wickes, the well-known DIY chain. I’ve personally completed a few of these runs recently, and they’ve been some of the best-paying jobs I’ve had on the platform.

For example, one job involved collecting a van-load of worktops, timber, and fittings, travelling less than three miles from the pickup point, and it paid £50. Another was £40 for delivering several bags of compost and garden materials. These deliveries are classed as “DIY heavy goods” rather than typical parcel drops, and while they require a suitable vehicle and a bit of manual handling, the pay makes it well worth the effort.

At the moment, these high-value Wickes jobs are still few and far between in my area, but when they do appear, they’re a great bonus — especially for drivers with vans who are set up for heavier loads. If Gophr continues expanding this partnership nationwide, it could open up a promising new stream of work for independent couriers who prefer fewer, better-paying jobs over constant small drops.

How the Gophr App Works

  • You must set yourself as “Available for Work” to receive job notifications
  • Jobs show up with collection/delivery windows (e.g. collect after 10 am, deliver before 11.30 am)
  • Accept a job, and it moves to your Jobs Board in the app
  • Use Google Maps for navigation
  • Collection requires showing an order number to the shop assistant
  • Delivery usually requires a photo proof (package by open door, number visible)
  • Some items (e.g. bladed tools) may require age verification

If you’ve used other delivery apps, you’ll feel right at home — the workflow is nearly identical.

Payment & Invoicing

Gophr pays every Friday, and so far, my payments have been consistent. After each job, they’ll also email you an invoice showing what you earned and which client the job was for. It’s all above board and well-documented — a refreshing change from some gig platforms.

Pros & Cons of Working for Gophr

Pros

  • Very good pay per job (especially for short deliveries)
  • Professional workflow and app interface
  • Weekly payments and automated invoicing
  • Great as a secondary app alongside Flex, Stuart, etc.
  • You still get paid partially on cancelled jobs

Cons

  • Very few jobs in smaller cities like Plymouth
  • You’ll miss jobs if you’re mid-block on another app
  • Some deliveries require additional checks (ID, age verification)
  • Not scalable on its own — more of a top-up gig

What Vehicle Do You Need for Gophr?

Gophr lets you register cars, vans, motorbikes, e-bikes, and cargo e-bikes (depending on the area). I’ve been using a Peugeot Expert van, which is ideal for Screwfix jobs. Most deliveries fit easily in a Deliveroo-type backpack — you don’t need a Luton or anything fancy.

Is Gophr Available in My Area?

As of 2025, Gophr is well-established in London, Manchester, Birmingham, and several other major cities. Smaller towns like Plymouth are still catching up, with limited job volume for now.

That said, if you’re based in a bigger city — or travel regularly for other work — it’s well worth signing up and keeping the app running in the background.

Final Verdict: Is Gophr Worth It?

Rating: 6.5/10 – For those who enjoy flexible work and like picking up short, local runs — Gophr is one to watch.
